Background: Two domains are in play, foo.com and bar.com Client machines are of the form host.foo.com and host.bar.com in fairly equal numbers. Unqualified email sent from a any host should have one of two things happen depending on the address: 1. If it's root, use /etc/aliases (or virtual_aliases) to expand recipient to root+hostfqdn< at >bar.com and the from should remain as root< at >hostfqdn. 2. All other email for local user accounts should be masqueraded to user< at >bar.com. As an example, take my workstation with a fqdn of coin.foo.com. If I send unqualified email as root to root, it should send email that looks like this: From: root< at >coin.foo.com To: root+coin.foo.com< at >bar.com Subject: .... Hi all In /etc/aliases I have set up an alias for "root" pointing to "david" which is a unix account. Other email accounts are virtual using dovecot, one of them is "andel". They all work fine using /etc/postfix/virtual when used with the domain name which is defined in /etc/postfix/virtual.domains. But the alias "david andel" in /etc/postfix/virtual does work only when sending to "david< at >domain.com" but not for the local mails sent to "root". And then there is another behaviour I don't understand. In my virtual mail folder /srv/vmail/domain.com dovecot made a new directory structure "david" which I didn't intend, for postfix should rewrite it to "andel". Where is the error? Any suggestions on how to whitelist a email sender address that is occasionally getting blocked due to a RBL hit for the sending servers IP? I have a problem with a mail relay I inherited (I mention that because I'm kind of ignorant). I need to make it work so that mail to addresses like jheim< at >vulcan.math.wisc.edu work. Right now, we use the canonical feature to rewrite the header. The problem is that as a result, the ldap lookup is never done. So then mail to invalid addresses like spock< at >vulcan.math.wisc.edu are rewritten as spock< at >math.wisc.edu and relayed on. That results in a bounce by the main server whereas I'd rather the ldap lookup gets done so the mail can be rejected by the relay. I emailed my predecessor about this and he suggested I get rid of the canonical rewrite and set up the ldap search to work for addresses like jheim< at >vulcan.math.wisc.edu. Okay, so I re-read the ldap howto and i see that you can use other substitution variables besides %s. Hi I'd like to ask you about dsn support. My server works like gateway, relays mails to destination server. When i tried to send an email with dsn features: ..... rcpt to:rcpt_address< at >domain.com notify=success,failure,delay ..... i get the delivery answer from gateway and not from destination server. And I'd say that this is wrong, cause gateway should just relay message. ( rfc - http://www.cse.ohio-state.edu/cgi-bin/rfc/rfc1891.html), cause gateway cannot say if it was delivered succesfull, it does destination server. Hi list, I want to use relay_recipient_maps on a postfix 2.5.1 relay server but it doens't appear to be doing anything. Hi, I have installed postfix 2.5.1. If I use the opendns service: resolv.conf nameserver 208.67.222.222 nameserver 208.67.220.220 the email that I try to send to unreal domain (i.e. yrcwed4r.it) go to the queue with connection time out: (connect to yrcwed4r.it[208.67.217.132]:25: Connection timed out) soracchi< at >yrcwed4r.it If I use the other DNS (my service provider) the email is bounced to sender correctly (Host or domain name not found. Name service error for name=yrcwed4r.it type=AAAA: Host found but no data record of requested type). The problem seems to be in opendns service. Can you help me. Regards,
